Intro. to Outdoor at Foxfire Outpost June 16-17, 2017
Dear New River District Scoutmasters:
Congratulations on having your troop rechartered for 2017 under your most excellent leadership! As of this past weekend, the charters for all 18 troops in our district have been posted and are active!
The next step is to make sure that all your Assistant Scoutmasters as trained for their positions. The classroom part of this training has been moved online (http://my.scouting.org), and you should expect that this online training for Assistant Scoutmasters will be required for them to recharter in their position in February 2018. Please encourage your untrained Assistant Scoutmasters to complete this online training sooner than later.
The Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills (S11) part training will continue to conducted offline and outdoors. The next session will take place on June 16-17, 2017 at the Foxfire Outpost next to Camp Ottari. See the attached PDF document. This training is only offered a few times per year, so please encourage your untrained Assistant Scoutmasters to attend this training session if at all possible. Note the June 12, 2017 registration deadline.
There will probably only be 2-3 more opportunities to complete this outdoor training between now and February 2018, so catch a session while you can!
Every Scout deserves a trained leader!
With kind regards,
Jan Helge Bøhn

Publicizing
I wanted to remind everyone that we would like to publicize any special events or accomplishments that your pack or troop may be involved in.
I am here to either help you write up the event and submit it to your local paper or can just point you in right direction if you are comfortable
with writing something yourself. It is always helpful to take a few photos as well to submit.
Please email me at tbooth@vt.edu when you need assistance.
